Woodio, a manufacturer of innovative solid wood composite bathroom furniture, continues to strengthen its board. Joakim Westerlund brings manufacturing industry and production development experience to the Woodio Board.
In 2019, Woodio opened its own production facility in Konala, Helsinki. The European Innovation Commission has recently provided the company with a total of EUR 7.5 million in funding for the development of production technology. Woodio is currently preparing to build a pilot plant and aims to significantly increase production capacity and improve security of supply. The company’s production will continue in Finland. Joakim Westerlund has been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors to strengthen its strategic expertise, especially in the area of production development.
Westerlund has a diverse background both from the academic world and as a business leader. Westerlund holds a PhD in engineering and has worked as a researcher at Åbo Akademi University and University College London. In the corporate world, Westerlund has a significant career with the building materials manufacturer Paroc Group, where he has held various management team roles, e.g. within the company’s technology and production. Today, Westerlund is the CEO of Forcit Group, which specializes in explosives and consulting in construction environmental impact.

Woodio’s board consists of Eerik Paasikivi, Niklas von Weymarn, Pekka Rantala and Joakim Westerlund. The company’s founder and CEO is Petro Lahtinen, Ph.D. in Chemistry.

Woodio material is the world’s first 100% waterproof solid wood composite made from real wood chips. The material has better properties than conventional bathroom materials such as ceramics. The material is durable in use and, for example, does not crack from impact like ceramics. Woodio products combine technological innovation, Scandinavian design, quality and sustainability.
